Home Remedies For Kids

Unavoidably, most children are going to suffer from a problem at some point. Not all home remedies are suitable for children, because their young bodies are sensitive and the home remedies sometimes disagree with them. So you need to be careful and select ingredients carefully, and if you do this you will be able to find home remedies that work and are safe for children. This is not always an easy task, but here are some of the top home remedies for some common childhood problems.

Head lice are a very common problem for school aged children, in fact very few of them completely avoid it. The only way to completely avoid the problem would be to shave your child's head, and of course most parents are not happy to do that. Home remedies which are a cost effective alternative are olive oil or mayonnaise. Spread over the whole scalp and the hair, and this works by suffocating the lice.

Splinters are another common childhood issue, and children will get them at some stage even though you tell them not to play with anything dangerous, and to wear shoes, and so on. To get splinters out, just apply a little wood glue to the skin and allow to dry. Then lift the glue gently off the skin, and the splinter should come with it. Much quicker and easier than tweezers!

Burns are another common incident that occurs in the home, whether from touching something hot or from exposure to the sun. To provide relief from the pain of burns and soothe the area, rather than buying an expensive gel, which probably contains aloe vera, why not buy an aloe vera plant. Consider it an investment that will save you money in the long run!

Mustard is another option, which works well, especially if for example you are out on a picnic or at a barbeque. Like aloe vera, it soothes the burning feeling and makes the sufferer more comfortable. Both are effective and safe home remedies for children, even the youngest, and do not usually cause an allergic reaction.

Another common childhood occurrence is toothache, and of course these are likely to happen when the dentist's surgery is closed. Probably on a Friday evening, with the whole weekend ahead and the child in pain the whole time. To relieve the child's pain (and save your sanity!), soak a cotton ball in vanilla extract. Apply it to the sore spot and leave it there for a bit. This should improve things a lot, and keep you both going until you can get to the dentist.

These are just a few of the excellent home remedies which are effective, easily obtainable (in fact you may well have them around the house), and safe for children. Do a bit of research and you could find many more like these.
